Jose Miguel Martinez Obituary
Jose Miguel Martinez died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, in Alamogordo.
He was born Santa Fe on Aug. 11, 1949, and raised in Tierra Amarilla.
Jose was preceded in death by his parents Francisco and Consuelo Martinez, and sisters Lydia and Lucia Martinez.
He is survived by his wife, Stella; his two children, Juanita and Andrew Martinez; his sister Teresa and husband, Leroy; sister Dolores and husband, Tito; brothers Patricio, Victor, Manuel and Tomas; and numerous nephews and nieces.
After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1971 at Fort Bliss, in El Paso, he worked for the New Mexico Highway Department. In 1973, he attended the University of Texas-El Paso. In 1976, he graduated with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. Later he obtained his master's degree and additional educational at the University of New Mexico.
During his successful and fulfilling 30-year career with the USDA Forest Service, he was a coordinator between the United States and Mexico forest services. He served with the Cibola, Lincoln, Coconino and Santa Fe National Forests. In 2006, Jose retired as the supervisor for the Lincoln National Forest.
In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to the Jose M. Martinez Memorial Fund at Otero Federal Credit Union.
A memorial will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.
The family will greet friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home chapel.
The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, in the Alamogordo Funeral Home chapel.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at St. Jude Parish with Father Bryant Hausfeld, O.F.M., as celebrant.
Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army.
The Martinez family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
