Lieutenant colonel, U.S.A.F., retired
Joseph L. Hutto, 79, of Tularosa, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at his home.
Mr. Hutto was born Sept. 12, 1929, in Bude, Miss., to Dennis H. and Eunice (Seale) Hutto. He attended Texas Western College (now UTEP) and received his bachelor's degree while attending the Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala. He received his master's degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years and was a pilot of the F-100 in Korea and the F-105 in Vietnam. He retired in 1972 as a lieutenant colonel and moved to Tularosa. He was a member of the Native Plant Society.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Nancy Hutto, of the family home; a son, George Allen Hutto, of Albuquerque; a son-in-law, Robert Baca, of Tularosa; three grandchildren, Brandy Zimmerman and her husband, Tucker, of Waynesville, Mo., Robert Joseph Baca, of Denver, and Salomon Baca, of Tularosa; and two great-grandchildren, Gabriella Baca and Tristin Zimmerman, both of Waynesville, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Joy Baca; a brother, Robert Hutto; and a sister, Janette Hutto.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home and no services are scheduled.
