Joshua Matthew Coleman Obituary
Andress' band director
Joshua Matthew Coleman, age 30, died unexpectedly at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, of natural causes. Josh was born May 12, 1979, at Holloman Air Force Base to his parents Biff Coleman and Maria Belandres. He is survived by Alexis Lujan, the love of his life, friend and partner; his mother; his father and his wife, Griselda; his sisters Dania and Breanna; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Josh grew up in Alamogordo with his family. He was a wonderful child and couldn't have been more loved. He was a gifted student and marching band enthusiast, graduating from Alamogordo High School in 1997 and then from New Mexico State University with his bachelor's of music education in 2004. That fall he began teaching band at Andress High School in El Paso. Josh was a gifted musician whose zest for life was infectious. His smile, handshake and hugs were genuine and he was loved by many. He was generous with his time and talents, giving back as a mentor and a friend. He rose to the position of head band director in 2007, where he served until his death. Josh once wrote that if he could reach one person through music, he would consider his life fulfilled. Clearly he surpassed his wildest dreams.
Josh will be greatly missed by his loving family and the many others whose lives he touched. If the quality of one's life is measured by the music one makes, the love one shares and the quality of the friends one leaves behind, Josh's life was rich beyond measure though we are all the poorer for his passing. "Life without music, would be a mistake" – Frederick Nietzsche
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Bryant Hausfeld, O.F.M., as celebrant.
The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Alamogordo Funeral Home.
The Coleman family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
