Judith A. Stokely Obituary
Judy Stokely, 62, passed away Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, in Alamogordo. She was born April 4, 1948, in Springville, N.Y., to Herbert and Lucille (Price) Baisch.
Judy worked as a paralegal in the District Attorney's Office in the DWI unit for 12 years. She also served as the music director for St. Jude Church in Alamogordo for many years. As the music director, she was responsible for the youth choir, the senior choir and the contemporary choir. She also coordinated music for funerals and special music for the Christmas and Easter seasons.
Judy was selected as a Woman of Merit in 2005 by the Alamogordo Daily News. She was nominated by then-District Attorney Scot Key. In her nominating letter, he wrote, "Her DWI unit is extremely busy, which requires a great deal of organizational and people skills. Her dedication to service to the community in this capacity is exceptional." Judy also served on the board of directors of the Opportunity Center for three years and was selected as president of the board of directors in 2005.
Judy was a gentle woman, consistent in her love for her family, friends and faith. She had a wonderful singing voice and loved all things musical, especially the St. Jude Choir, New Mexico State University-Alamogordo choir and the Santa Fe Opera. She possessed a warm sense of humor and enjoyed a good joke, but never at the expense of others. Her loyalty to her church was well known, as was her tenacious support of its choir. Judy never let down a friend and treated all people with charity, grace and compassion. She loved life and gave it her all. Her family, friends and all who knew her or benefitted unknowingly from her generous community involvement will miss her enormously.
Survivors include her husband, Richard, of the family home; daughters Julia House and her husband, Patrick, of Fairfax, Va., and Holly Cecil and her husband, David, of Indianapolis; son Daniel Stokely and his wife, Lisa, of Bremerton, Wash.; mother Lucille Baisch, of Clearwater, Fla.; sisters Susan Wright and her husband, Carl, of Hudson, Fla., and Margaret Nedimyer and her husband, John, of Clearwater; brother Herbert Baisch and his wife, Jackie, of Lake City, Fla.; and grandchildren Aidan House, Amber Melendez, Cody Melendez and Oliver Cecil.
Judy is also survived by her mother-in-law Audrey Stokely, of Alamogordo; and her sister-in-law Heather Purcell and her husband, Kevin, of Oklahoma City.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at St. Jude Parish with Father Wayne Herpin, S.J., as celebrant.
A vigil with the rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home chapel.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude Church, the or your favorite charity.
The Stokely family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation has taken place at PCS.
