She was raised in Ottawa, Illinois and graduated from Marquette High School. She always cherished her school and her classmates. She lived in many places throughout the US in her younger years but settled in Alamogordo in 1968 and kept it as her place of residence. She and her first husband were active in the community and its development. She loved spending time with her family, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She truly enjoyed spending time at the lake. She was the best at fishing. One of her favorite things was growing roses and plants with beautiful blooms. She was very talented in arts and crafts and especially liked beading and pottery. She always enjoyed her sorority and playing bridge with friends.
Her parents, Henry G and Marguerite Koenig, her brother, Henry T Koenig, one daughter, GayLynn Maupin and her first husband, Barry Burke, preceded Karen in death.
