Katherine C. Ingold Obituary
Katherine C. Ingold, 80, passed away Sunday evening, Dec. 9, 2012, after a heroic year-long battle with cancer. That morning, a meteor crossed the Alamogordo sky from West to East, and immediately following her passing, a rose that had never thrived until the last few months, lost its leaves with the change in the weather.
During the spring for 2012, the Ingolds made a trip to London and to the famous island off the coast of England where Agatha Christie wrote many of her famous novels, including "And Then There Were None." They stayed in the hotel made famous by that novel.
Born on a farm near rural Atoka, Okla., Mrs. Ingold had a distinguished career in the civilian military service and in education. With a master's degree in business administration, she served as chief contracting officer at Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo. She taught at New Mexico State University and later served on its Criminal Justice Advisory Board. She also served on the Board of Regents for the New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Alamogordo.
Her church and community were important to her; she served on the foundation of the Catholic Diocese in Las Cruces and as a Eucharistic minister at St. Jude Parish in Alamogordo. She faithfully attended a Bible study at her church until shortly before her passing.
Her civic life was likewise exemplary. She was chair and later treasurer of the Republican Women's Club of Otero County and later a member of the Federated Republican Women's Club. She served as a longtime member of the Republican Executive Committee of Otero County and was frequently elected to represent the county at the New Mexico State Republican Party convention.
Survivors include her husband, Norman Ingold, of Alamogordo; daughter Renee Hogue and son-in-law Jay, of Denver.; and step-daughter Maria, of London.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at St. Jude Parish, with a Rosary at 9:15 a.m., and Mass following at 10 a.m. Bishop Ricardo Ramirez will officiate. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. At the time of her death, an endowment was funded for the Seminary in Education. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in her name to the Catholic Diocese of Las Cruces for Seminary in Education. Donations can be sent to 1280 Med Park Drive, Las Cruces, N.M., 88005.
