Katie M. Lebowitz of Alamogordo peacefully graduated to heaven on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at her home at the age of 91. She was born on May 7, 1923, in Fort Sumner to Joseph and Melissa (Barnett) Mason.

After Katie graduated from Fort Sumner High School, she went to work for the U.S. Army Sub-Depot also in Fort Sumner; and in 1949 she moved to Alamogordo to work at the newly-renamed Holloman Air Force Base in the base supply unit. Katie served her country as a federal civil service employee and retired after more than 25 years of service. She traveled extensively with her husband, to whom she was married to for over 30 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Alamogordo and was also a member and served as an officer in several professional business and charitable organizations.

She is survived by her three daughters: Judi Hill, of Vancouver, Wash., Carol Basile and Sharon Nicholson of Alamogordo. She is also survived by six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her beloved brother J.N. Mason of Silver City.
