Ken Watters Obituary
Ken Watters, 61, passed away at his home on Monday, April 15, 2013.
Ken was born in Cherokee, Iowa, to Luverne and Thelma (Collier) Watters. Ken grew up on the family farm in the Holstein, Iowa, area. He attended Wayne State College in Nebraska, where he met and married Phyllis (Pfaff) Watters in 1971.
The couple moved to Norfolk, Neb., in 1972, where Ken served on the Norfolk Police Department for 11 years. In 1983, Ken gained a position with an electronics firm with a transfer to El Paso, where he worked both sides of the border. In 1994, Ken began his career with mall management, working with Cielo Vista Mall, Southeast Services and Bassett Center. In 2006, with an eye on eventual retirement, the couple moved to Cloudcroft, where Ken worked as a realtor.
Over the years, Ken made many friends as he had the ability to put people at ease and was always willing to help anyone in need. Ken was an avid Nebraska football fan and traveled to their stadium at least once a year to watch the Huskers play.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Watters, of the family home; their daughters Jennifer Ramirez and husband, Rick, of El Paso, and Jill Crosby and husband, John, of Rangeley, Maine; grandchildren Iris and Madeline Ramirez, and Tyler and Callahan Crosby; and uncle Bob Watters, of Woodinville, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents Luverne and Thelma (Collier) Watters; a sister Wilda Boothby; a brother Harry Putnam; and grandsons Dominic Stanwick and Ryder Crosby.
Services will be held at the Cloudcroft United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2013. Burial will take place at the James Canyon Cemetery.
In keeping with Ken's love of the mountain communities, donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Mayhill Community Center or to the church of your choice.
The Watters family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the arrangements.
