Kenneth Brown Obituary
Kenneth Brown was born in Cedarvale, N.M. on Jan. 14, 1933, and raised on the family ranch.
In 1951, he married his wife Chessie Wharton of Mountainair, and they moved to Ridgecrest, Calif. to start their life together. Kenneth worked for the Naval Base at China Lake as a Navy Civilian Diver and Crane Operator. While in California, both of Kenneth's boys were born. In 1977, the Brown family relocated back to New Mexico and settled in James Canyon between Cloudcroft and Mayhill. Kenneth became a volunteer firefighter for over 20 years and he maintained the water system for Robinhood Park for many years. He battled leukemia, dementia, three or four bouts with pneumonia, and lysteria after eating his favorite fruit last year and never felt like he was sick. He hated the hospital no matter how good he was treated and always preferred to be home. After his last bout with pneumonia, the family decided it was time to bring him home under the care of hospice and let him spend his remaining time in the place he loved the most - his mountain.
Kenneth passed away at 6 p.m. on May 4, 2012, surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Chessie; his son Dwayne and wife Cressie of Mayhill; his son Michael and his wife Beth of Santa Fe; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Per his request, there will be no public services.
Direct Cremation will take place under the care of PCS Direct Cremation Services.
