King Belmont Carlyle

1926 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
King Belmont Carlyle, 87, of Alamogordo, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2013. King was born Jan. 5, 1926 in West Los Angeles, Calif., to Gunnar and Ada Pauline Carlyle.
He is survived by his two children Kevin and Merilee and his brother Thomas Carlyle.
Although a tough exterior hid King's gentle nature, King loved his family and always put his wife and children first - even ahead of his own desires. King had a great love of nature and taught his children to respect all of God's creatures. King was kind to all living beings and would not be above pulling his vehicle over to the side of a road to move a turtle out of the way of oncoming traffic.
King worked with NASA during the Apollo missions to the moon. He would bring all sorts of photos of space home for his family, and his daughter particularly appreciated this. She was so very proud of her Dad.
Although highly educated and intelligent, King made sure to provide for his family and was not above taking the most menial jobs during tough periods. King spent as much time as possible with his family and would encourage family outings to historical sites and parks. King was extremely artistic and enjoyed painting. King's children recall how he created two vehicles out of large cardboard boxes when they were young. For his daughter, a Penelope Pitstop car and, for his son, Herbie, the Love Bug. His daughter remembers King teaching her how to ride a horse and how to play chess.
Many outings consisted of the entire family riding horses to a secluded picturesque spot to enjoy a picnic. When King purchased a go cart and mini bike for his children, he was always there to watch his children and ensure that no one got hurt. King always supported his children in all of their endeavors.
One of King's favorite loves through his life was college football. To the day he passed, King always looked forward to watching a college football game. As a University of California Los Angeles graduate, King always rooted for his alma mater.
King was married to his wife, Carol, for 51 years. Through good times and bad, they were always together. Carol passed away just two months ago, but now they are united again where they can enjoy all the activities they loved doing together and where they will be young together forever.
