Larry Lamar Morgan Obituary

Larry Lamar Morgan passed away peacefully at his home June 12, 2016, surrounded by family. Larry was born to Cornelia (Corkie) Eliza Fisk and Lawrence Eugene Morgan August 13, 1938, in San Diego, Calif.

After living in several states throughout his childhood, the family moved to Truth or Consequences, N.M., when his father retired from the Navy. Upon graduation from Hot Springs High School in 1956, Larry went to broadcasting school in California. Returning to T or C, he worked as a radio broadcaster/acting manager of radio station KCHS. In 1959, Larry enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Forbes AFB, Topeka, Kan. He served two assignments, Alaska and Turkey. He married the love of his life, Ginger Bixby, also from T or C, on Oct. 31, 1959. The wedding was held in Albuquerque, N.M., at Kirtland AFB.

After military duty, the couple and young daughter moved to Las Cruces, N.M., where he worked as a broadcaster and subsequent news director of Radio Station KGRT/KGRD. While in this occupation, he received many awards from the New Mexico Broadcaster's Association. In 1969, Larry and the family moved to the Washington, DC area to begin his political career as Press Secretary for U.S. Congressman Ed Foreman (R-NM). From 1972 to 1981 he was Press Secretary/Legislative Assistant and ultimately Chief of Staff for U.S. Congressman Harold Runnels (D-NM). 1981 saw Larry serving as Legislative Assistant and ultimately, Chief of Staff for U.S. Senator Harrison Schmitt(R-NM). From 1983 until his retirement in 1994, Larry was Director, Legislative & Public Affairs, Office of Territorial and International Affairs, U. S. Department of Interior.

Aside from his interesting career, he enjoyed time spent with family and friends. Camping, RVing, soccer refereeing, metal detecting , photography, and church activities were some of his interests.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Corkie and Gene Morgan, his brother, Carl V. (Butch) Morgan, and a niece.

Survivors include his wife, Ginger Morgan, son Kevin D. Morgan (Tammy), daughter, Sherri L. Ledford (Mark), and daughter, Jennifer D. Krejcha (Jerome). Also surviving are granddaughters, Britni Norris (Joe), Amanda Box (Ryan), Kayln Vaughn (Matt), Jamie Gynn (Daniel Cruz) and Jaycie Gynn, grandson, J.T. Krejcha, great grandson, A.J. Cruz, sister-in-law, Karon Morgan, two nieces and a nephew.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held August 13, 2016, at 10 a.m., at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home, Rev. Jack Moffatt officiating.
