Laura Baum

Obituary Condolences

She wrote her own obituary as follows:
Laura Baum died on Monday, April 13, 2009, at her home in Alamogordo, having lived more than twice as long as she had expected and probably three or four times as long as she should have. Although she was born into an impecunious family, in a backward and benighted part of Texas shortly before the Great Depression, she never in her life suffered any real hardships.
She grew up and graduated high school in Fort Worth, Texas, but dropped out of college to marry and live happily ever after. She had many loyal friends and two sons who both married beautiful, intelligent women and brought forth six grandchildren with outstanding abilities.
Laura had lived in Alamogordo since 1956, was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and was employed at Holloman Air Force Base for 16 years.
Laura was uncomfortable having attention focused on her and preferred to observe life from the sidelines. She had no claims to fame, received no honors and her only mission in life was to strive to brighten the corner where she was. She enjoyed life, loved to laugh and found humor in situations that might have made others weep. Her hopes were that her memorial service would be a joyful celebration of her life and her escape from it.
Her loving parents, John and Lucy Lynch; her brother Al Lynch and a brother who died in infancy; three husbands and a stepson preceded her in death.
She is survived by her two sons, Walt Rogers Jr. and his wife, Jean, of Westminster, Md., and Ken Rogers and his wife, Cindy, of Alamogordo; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; stepson Todd Baum, of California; and stepdaughter Dena King, of Tularosa.
A memorial service will he held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 27, 2009, at Our Savior Lutheran Church with the Rev. Bruce Freeman officiating.
Any memorials may be sent to Our Savior Lutheran Church Columbarium.
The Baum family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation has taken place locally at PCS.
