Lawrence B. Makinson Obituary

Alamogordo has lost one of its sons. Lawrence B. Makinson went to be with our Lord on June 10, 2014, after a long illness.

Lawrence was proud to be a Vietnam solider. Born in Alamogordo to hard working folks in 1947, his Dad, Willie owned P & W Appliance and his mother Pearl had the famous Tiger Den where he and his sisters, Patsy and Glynda, grew up. Everyone remembers their little brother Steve. The Makinson and Jones families helped pioneer these parts and stand to their calling.
Lawrence had many friends whom he loved and enjoyed. Each had heart felt memories of some crazy time they shared. The same is true for his family. Lawrence was a real person and was the same to everyone. You either took a liking to him right away or not. But either way Lawrence made a lasting impression. He loved life and made a difference in many peoples lives. Alamogordo is left with a lot of stories that will last for a very long time. The Makinson/ Henley family will miss this very unique person, whom they call Dad and husband.

Survivors include his wife, Julia Makinson; children, Linda C. (Trevor Snell) Makinson, Richard L. (Kelly) Henley, David J. (Karen) Henley; nephew, Steve Sandoval; grandsons, Jordan Henley, Aaron Henley, James Henley, Matthew Hohe, Marshall Henley, Daniel Henley, sisters, Patsy Bass and Glynda Pender, along with numerous other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Steve L. Makinson.

A celebration of Lawrence's life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Christ Community Church, 2960 Scenic Dr., Alamogordo, with Ronnie Rardin officiating. A reception will follow the service at 1:00 pm at the Moose Lodge on S. Florida in Alamogordo.

Should friends desire, contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project. Donations may be made online at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.

The Makinson family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
