Investigator, 12th Judicial District
Lawrence Moon, 76, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, in Las Cruces. He was born on March 2, 1931, in Nassau, N.Y. to Chester and Florence (Hoffman) Moon.
Mr. Moon joined the Army and served in Japan he then went to Vietnam as Flight Paramedic, and then served in the Air Force in Africa. He then served in the Air Force and retired Oct. 31, 1968, at Holloman Air Force Base. Upon retirement, he joined the Alamogordo Department of Public Safety and later served as Otero County Under Sheriff for Terrell Herndon. He then joined the Twelfth Judicial District as an investigator for the Public Defenders Office and retired as an investigator for the District Attorney's office.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Gloria (Letendre) Moon of the family home; seven children, Marsha Armstrong and husband Charles, of Alamogordo, Phillip Moon and wife Dixiem of Amarillo, Texas, Lawrence J. Moon, Jr. and wife Marisa, of Potomac, Md., Laurene Carter and husband Andy, of Alamogordo, Marilyn Dye and husband Steven, of Edmond, Okla., David Moon and wife Ronda and Neil Moon, all of Alamogordo; 15 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and three sisters, Trudy Laducer, of Ballston Spa, N.Y.; Ruth Douglas and Marilyn Smith both, of Saratoga, N.Y.
Cremation will take place locally at PCS entrusted to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007 at Our Lady of the Light Catholic Church with Fr. Bruce Hausfeld, O.F.M., Celebrant.
