She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leon C. Schlensig, retired master sergeant; and son John Schlensig.
She is survived by her daughter Betty L. (Schlensig) Gough and her husband, Don, of Wichita Falls, Texas; their daughter Cheryl Dodson and her two daughters, Lauren and Tayler; their daughter Dawn (Gough) and Tim Bell and their children, Halie and Curtis; Don's brother Rusty Jordan, a special friend of Leola; John Schlensig's children Geneva, Anne and John Jr. (deceased); Cecil and his wife, Linda (her special helper); her son Richard "Fuzzy" Schlensig and his wife, Alice, three sons and daughter; Edward and Russell Schlensig, their oldest son R. After high school she moved to Las Vegas, Nev., to wait for Zeke to come home from overseas. They married in Las Vegas. Her two loves were Leon and slot machines. She became a military wife until retirement from Holloman Air Force Base. She then moved to Boles Acres and traveled often to Colorado and Las Vegas.
After Zeke passed away, she continued to enjoy the slots closer to home. She also enjoyed visitors like her sister Susan Cowan staying with her when possible. Susan helped Leola fulfill her bucket list.
A special thanks to the intensive care unit staff at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center for their excellent care of Leola.
A graveside service for Leola Schlensig will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso.
Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or the animal shelter.
