Leonard Hendzel 79, of La Luz, died Oct. 27, 2008, at his home.
Mr. Hendzel was born July 7, 1929 in Pulaski, Wisc. to Frank and Agnes (Gunia) Hendzel. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1986 as an ecologist with the U.S. Forest Service in Lakewood, Colorado. He moved to La Luz in 1992 and was a member of the St. John's Episcopal Church, the Vine and Wine Club, the Native Plant Society, and the Geneological Society.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Patricia E. Hendzel, of the family home; three sons, Dean Hendzel and his wife Deborah of Vail, Ariz., Bret Hendzel and his wife Kim-Lori of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Kris Hendzel and his wife Wendy of Arvada, Colo.; a daughter Laure Grinvalsky and her husband William of Aurora, Colo.; eight grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Frank Hendzel and his wife Golda of Stevensville, Mont., Eugene Hendzel and his wife Nancy of Seymour, Wis., Edwin Hendzel and his wife Pat of Green Bay, Wis., and Chet Sommers and his wife Ronnie of Meta, Mo.; and three sisters, Lorraine Muck and her husband Orville, and Stella Paluch, all of Green Bay, Wisc., and Jo Nurczyk of Franklin Park, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
A memorial service will be conducted Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at 1 p.m. in the Hamilton-O'Dell Chapel.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
