Lloyd B. Pieper, 69 of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away Thursday, March 19, 2009, in Tucson, Ariz.
Lloyd proudly served his country, most recently as chief of recruitment and services in the civilian personnel division of the Information Command for the United States Army at Fort Huachuca, Ariz. Previously, he served at White Sands Missile Range, Department of the Army-San Francisco Field Office and the Secretary of the Army.
He was the recipient of many awards, including two Meritorious Service awards.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Janet, and their children, Ron Pieper, and his wife, Valerie, and Allyson Smith and her husband, Scott; a brother, Ronald Pieper and his wife, Mary; his mother, Alma Pieper; a niece Janet Mathis and her husband, Jim; a nephew, Duane Pieper; two great-nieces, Elizabeth and Morgan; a great-nephew, Kendall; and a grandson, Tyler.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his father, William, in 2008.
A celebration of Lloyd's remarkable life will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at the home of Janet and Lloyd.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 3827 N. 7th St., No. 300, Phoenix, AZ 85014.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Angel Valley Funeral Home in Tucson.
