Louis Gonzales Telles Obituary
Louis Gonzales Telles, 83, of La Luz, passed on after a courageous battle with dementia and diabetes Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at Casa Arena Blanca Nursing Center in Alamogordo.
He was born Aug. 19, 1926, in Warden, Mont., to Feliciano Tellez and Rogelia Gonzales Romero.
He retired from civil service where he worked with vehicle maintenance. During his retirement, Louie kept busy working on his home and rental property along with his close friend Jose Leyba. He purchased an orchard in La Luz in the early 1960s. La Luz became his beloved home, a special place that he will forever cherish. Harvesting fruit and pecans, irrigating and maintaining the land with his old Ford tractor were just some of the activities that kept him busy. In his later years, he will be best remembered for his involvement with the La Luz Community Ditch Association. He served as a board member and as president from 1985 until 2005.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Drusilla Telles; sons Robert Telles and companion, Terry Reyes, of Alamogordo, Louie Telles and wife, Lydia, of Alamogordo, and Steve Telles and companion, Ashley Harrison, of Los Lunas; daughters Della Hernandez and husband, Manny, of Alamogordo, and Margarita Baczik and husband, Robert, of Killeen, Texas; brothers Sammy Romero, Billy and wife, Loyola Romero, and Raul Romero, all of Alamogordo, Roberto Tellez and wife, Angela, of El Paso, and Salvador and Mary Gonzales, of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Yolanda Mendez, also of Alamogordo; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Feliciano and Rogelia; stepfather Perfecto Romero; father- and mother-in-law, Louis and Drucilla Martinez; brothers Frank Tellez and Ernie Romero; sister Constancia Romero; daughter Annie Burchett and son-in-law Willie Burchett, of Auxier, Ky.; infant son Mark Telles; sisters-in-law Helen Tellez and Mary Helen Avila Gonzales; and a brother-in-law, Childo Mendez.
Louie was always willing to lend a hand. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Louie's name to the Salvation Army, PO Box 1944, Alamogordo, NM 88311.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Raymond Hernandez, Arthur Telles, Nate Telles, Mario Hernandez, Leandro Telles, David Burchett, Chon Hernandez and Ben Telles.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, in the Alamogordo Funeral Home chapel.
Interment will follow in La Luz Community Cemetery.
Fellowship will follow at the La Luz Community Center.
The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home.
