Lovor Mancillas Medina Obituary
Lovor ""Louie"" Mancillas Medina, 82, passed away Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, in Alamogordo. A lifelong resident of Cloudcroft, he was born Aug. 2, 1928, in Cloudcroft to Frank and Lupe (Mancillas) Medina.
Louie was a decorated Army veteran, serving in the Korean War from 1951 to 1952, combat infantry, where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star.
Louis retired from Otero County Electric Cooperative after 25 years of service. He also volunteered his services to Sacred Heart Catholic Church for 24 years. In addition, Louis was a member and organizer of Fiestas Guadalupanas for 23 years at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cloudcroft and Our Lady of the Light Catholic Church in La Luz.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Elia Medina, of the family home in Cloudcroft, and seven sons, Louie Medina and wife, Twila, of Albuquerque; Freddie Medina, of Hobbs; Frank Medina and wife, Karen, of Las Cruces; Joe Medina and wife, Elizabeth, of Cloudcroft; Richard Medina and wife, Lisa, of High Rolls; Alfred Medina, of Cloudcroft; and James Medina and wife, Rose, of Cloudcroft. He also enjoyed 17 grandchildren, including Diane Medina; brothers Joshua, Jordan, Christopher and Lucas Medina; and many great-grandchildren.
The rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cloudcroft by Deacon Don Dickman. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m., with Fathers Bruce and Bryant Hausfeld, O.F.M., as celebrants.
Pallbearers include Louie Medina, Freddie Medina, Frank Medina, Joe Medina, Richard Medina, Alfred Medina, James Medina, Diane Medina and Christopher Medina. Honorary pallbearers include Paul Marez, Damon Marez, Manny del Palacio, Joe del Palacio and Willie Romero.
Interment will follow at James Canyon Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cloudcroft.
The Medina family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
