Lifelong resident of Tularosa
Lucille M. Marr, 93, a lifelong resident of Tularosa, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, at her home.
Mrs. Marr was born March 1, 1914, in Tularosa to Roderick Monroe and Eula Elizabeth (Arthur) McNatt. She was a leader in her community. She worked to better the schools through the PTA, and was a substitute teacher for many years. She helped to get the original 49 block of Tularosa on the New Mexico Historical Record, and was a member of the Tularosa Historical Society for many years. She also worked to help Tularosa get a public library, and to save the Red Brick School Building, where she started school. She also worked to get the Senior Center, and was very active there for many years. She was a member of the Tularosa United Methodist Church and an active member of the Democrat Party.
Survivors include three children, Evelyn Trammell and her husband Allen "Bill," Gerald Elliott Marr and Donald Eugene Marr, all of Tularosa; nine grandchildren, Sharon Bednorz and her husband Don, of Alamogordo, Melvin Glenn Trammell and his wife Jolynn, of Dexter, Arlene Rowland and her husband Tim, of Roswell, Neal Trammell and his wife Cricket, of Tularosa, Nilda Douglas and her husband Clifton, of Las Cruces, Joel Marr and his wife Teresa, of Sunland Park, William Elliott, of Alaska, Brad Marr and his wife Patricia, of T or C, and Kelly Marr, of Tularosa; 22 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Houston Ely "Hute" Marr, in 1974; her parents; two sisters, Louise M. Babers and Roslyn Santistevan; and a brother, Roderick Lee McNatt.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Tularosa United Methodist Church with Pastor Vaden Gilloth officiating.
Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Tularosa.
Pallbearers will be Joel Marr, Brad Marr, Glenn Trammell, Neal Trammell, Kevin Bednorz and Jody Trammell. Honorary pallbearers will be Guy Warden, Ty Trammell, Tel Trammell, Isaac Douglas, Nathanael Douglas and Stephen Marr.
Services are under the direction of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
