Lula Mae Scott Jones Obituary

Lula Mae Scott Jones, 85, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Hospital in Alamogordo.

She was born June 1, 1929, in Girard, Ga., to Leavance and Ella Fair Scott. She accepted Christ as her personal savior and was baptized at twelve years old at Given Grove Baptist Church in Girard, Ga.
She moved to Alamogordo twice. The first year was in 1962 when her husband was stationed at Holloman Air Force Base and she returned in 1969 after three years in Ellison Air Force Base, Alaska.

She was married to her sweetheart James "Jimmy" Jones for 43 years before he passed away Dec. 10, 2001. In 1962, Lula Mae was a preparation cook and loved making tacos at the Red Rooster in Alamogordo.
She united with the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor A.T. McCargo. She had been a member for nearly 51 years, and she had served as an usher and treasurer for countless years. In later years, she traveled and attended the district and state ushers' meetings under the leadership of Pastor Willard L. Avery. She also was a member of Queen Esther #2.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Phillip "Buddy" Scott and Tom W. Scott Sr., and sister Eloise Scott Smith.

She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Gloria Scott of El Paso, Texas, and Janice (Frank) Logan of Alamogordo; four sons Raphus Williams of Savannah, Ga., Gerald (Sonya) Jones of Augusta, Ga., Dennis R. (Joelene) Jones of Albuquerque, and Gregory Jones of Alamogordo. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, Michael S. Jones, Tymika Logan, Deon Logan, Sheena (Ronald) Flournoy, Shanice Jones and Deadra Jones, Darvel Jones; three great-grandchildren, Michael Jones II, Zoe Nieder and Jude Saulpha – along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

A memorial service was held at 11 am, Monday, March 2, 2015, at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 308 Maryland Avenue Alamogordo, with Pastor Willard L. Avery officiating. A repast followed in the church fellowship hall.

The Jones family entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
