Lulu Maestas Valdez Obituary
On Christmas Eve, our mother, Lulu Valdez joined our dad, Fidel in eternal rest. Lulu was born premature, 3 pounds on September 8th, 1943. Her parents Ignacio and Adela Maestas diligently kept her alive in a shoe box in the oven. She lived a colorful life in her youth in Mora, New Mexico. She graduated from Highlands, and taught in Encino. When she married Fidel, she move to Las Cruces to teach at Immaculate Heart of Mary.

In 1962 we moved to Alamogordo and mom taught at Sacramento, Holloman, and then La Luz. She taught every grade except second. In 1974 she became Director of Federal Programs. Mom had a masters from NMSU in Educational Law. Mom retired as Principal of Sacramento School.

With so much love in her heart, mom was generous with a smile or a helping hand. She had empathy for people and a compassion to pass on wisdom to her students and kids. Teachers respected Lulu because she always stood on the side that would be best for all. An Educator's educator.

Mom loved volunteering, was a member of Altrusa, promoting reading in grade schools.

Mom and Dad shared many activities, including golf and Knights of Columbus. They were parishioners of Our Lady of the Light Catholic Church, but volunteered time at any fiesta or pancake breakfast at other churches. The family is grateful to ICC for offering the funeral mass.

She is survived by her sisters and brothers, Adelita and Carlos Craig, Fabiola and Mike Esposito, Cassimiro Valdez, Eloy and Helen Valdez, Viola Martinez; daughters, Elizabeth and Harvey Bordett, Fidencia Leola Mina Valdez; grandchildren, Tobias (Daniella), Zack (Tyla), and Lorren (Jesusita) Montgomery, Rosalie and David Bordett; great grandchildren, Remy, Alazaya, Izacc, Tobias Jr., Aryah, Sophia, Addie, Catherine Anne, Pat Montgomery, Maria Perea and future offspring. She was grateful to have many cousins, nieces and nephews, and dear friends throughout her life that supported and love her.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Lulu and Fidel Valdez memory to Father James B. Hay Catholic School or K of C Ladies Auxiliary Scholarship Fund.

The Vigil will be held at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Our Lady of the Light Catholic Church.

The Rosary for Lulu Valdez will be recited at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Delaware Avenue. Mass of the Resurrection will follow the Rosary at 10:30 am.

A reception will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall on KC Road.

Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

The Valdez family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the services.
