Lutz "Whitey" Buchholz Obituary

Whitey Buchholz passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with complications with diabetes on Monday August 24, 2015.

Celebration of Life for Whitey Buchholz will be held September 2, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at St Jude's Catholic Parish, Alamogordo, NM. Inurnment will follow at the St Jude Columbarium with Air Force Honor Guard. There will be a reception in the parish hall following the service.

Upon Whitey's passing, he was surrounded by members of his family. Whitey is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Kathy. His children are his daughter, Tina Rigley (husband Yancey) and their children Nicholas, Justin, and Makayla; Son Chris Padilla (wife Lori) their children Manuel, Christopher, and Monique; Son Michael Padilla (wife Prissy) their children Isiah Fuentes, Serenity and Christian Padilla; and son Mark D. Buchholz. Great-grandchildren include Skyler Rigney, Kimberlee Padilla, Zaiden Padilla, and Dannalyn Padilla.

Whitey was born on January 13, 1942 to Friedrich H. Buchholz and Hildeg Henni Rogge in Nienburg, West Germany. He came to the United States at a young age and became a naturalized citizen on March 29, 1960. He then entered the United States Air Force on April 1, 1960 in Flushing, New York. Whitey retired from the military on April 1, 1980 with 20 years active duty military service, ending his career at Holloman AFB, NM.

After military retirement, Whitey worked as a civil servant for the Holloman AFB Commissary and Outdoor Recreational Supply for 15 years. Also, he was package store manager for the Backdoor Saloon and Golden Bull. He commenced and launched many friendships throughout the community.

Whitey was an avid and enthusiastic Train Hobbyist. He would be so excited to share his knowledge on how to set up and care for trains and their components. His passion for his hobby was undeniable.

The family greatly appreciates their friends, family and community for their prayers, thoughts, and expression of their condolences.

The Buchholz family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements.
