1928 - 2015 Obituary Condolences
Lynn Krueger McCalmont Obituary

Lynn Krueger McCalmont passed away peacefully April 8, 2015, in Las Cruces.

Known as "Papa" by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was preceded in death by his parents, Stuart and Pearl (Krueger) McCalmont; his siblings, Warren, Don, Margare, and Maynard, and his infant son Matthew.

He is survived by his wife Mary Lou (Robertson) McCalmont, five children, 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Lynn was born March 20, 1928, in Montezuma, Kans. He majored in Advertising at Oklahoma A&M University. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force upon graduation in 1951.

He and Mary Lou were married May 3, 1953. Following his honorable discharge, they were in the grocery business in southwest Kansas. Lynn returned to school to become a computer programmer and moved the family to Alamogordo in 1970. Employed at Holloman Air Force Base and then White Sands Missile Range, Lynn and Mary Lou moved to Las Cruces in 1983 following a five-year civil-service assignment in the Canal Zone of Republic of Panama.
Lynn retired as a civil servant from WSMR in 1994.
Outside of work, Lynn was highly involved with his children and in scouting. He served as scoutmaster of Troop 146 in Fowler, Kans., and also for Troop 147 in Alamogordo. Lynn was ever proud that all four of his sons obtained the Eagle Scout Award. He received the Wood Badge in recognition of his service from Boy Scouts of America in 1979.

In retirement, Lynn enjoyed wood working, gardening, and golf. He especially enjoyed doting over his grandchildren during their numerous visits to New Mexico over the years.
Quick to praise and ever helpful, Lynn and his warm smile, wit, and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service at Montezuma, Kans., is being considered for early June where his remains will rest eternally near his parents and infant son.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Baca's Funeral Chapels of Las Cruces and Swaim Funeral Home of Montezuma.
