1925 - 2009 Obituary Condolences
Margaret H. Burch, 84, a longtime Alamogordo resident, passed away Friday, April 17, 2009, in Alamogordo.
She was born in Alamogordo to a pioneer family on March 13, 1925. Her parents were Albert Fall Burch and Frances (Grant) Burch.
She attended Alamogordo Public Schools grades one through eleven. She then attended Stephens in Columbia, Mo., for her senior year of high school and her freshman year of college.
Margaret graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in government and sociology. She received her master's degree in administration at Western University in Silver City.
She began her career as a social worker, serving for two years in Catron and Luna counties. Her teaching career began in Orogrande in a one-room school, teaching grades one through eight. She taught fifth grade for 10 years at Oregon Elementary School, and then taught social studies at Alamogordo Mid-High School before becoming assistant principal there. She held that position from 1973 until her retirement in 1984.
Margaret is survived by nephews, Albert Fall Burch III and his wife, Beverly, of Alamogordo, and Champ Burch, of High Rolls; niece Amber Kendrick, of Alamogordo; great-nephews Matthew Burch and his wife, Leslie, of Alamogordo, and Ryan Burch, of Las Cruces; great-nieces Samantha Burch, of Alamogordo, Kassandra Kendrick and her husband, Maik, of Alamogordo, Kirbi Kendrick, of Albuquerque, and Katey Jane Kendrick, of Albuquerque; great-great-nephew Lucas Burch and great-great-niece Isabella Burch, of Alamogordo.
She is also survived by special friends Clyde and Joy Avery, Diana and Joel Hamilton, Flow and Joe Erwin, Irene Hullihen, Linda and Steve Elliot, Dick and Nancy Bunker, Shorty and Ruth Brown, Karen and Pete Hendrickson, Margarita Macias and Jane Klayman.
Margaret was a member of the Tularosa Historical Society, a life member of the VFW Auxiliary and former Alamogordo Sun Princess.
The Burch family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place locally at PCS.
