Margaret Elizabeth (Liz) MacVeigh passed away Friday, March 22, 2013, in Alamogordo.
Liz was born in Carrizozo Oct. 18, 1927, to her parents, Charles Edward and Mae Snow Jordan. She grew up in Carrizozo and attended schools where she participated in many activities including playing the trumpet in the marching band and also in a community dance band.
Liz met William MacVeigh in Carrizozo when he was stationed on detached service in the U.S. Army from El Paso at Oscuro Bombing Range. They were married June 8, 1946. He survives Liz at their home in Alamogordo.
Liz had four siblings, Albert Charles Jordan, Lenora Jordan, Louise Jordan and Johnnie Jordan, all of whom preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband of almost 67 years, Bill MacVeigh; her son Bill MacVeigh Jr. and wife, Dottie, of Capitan; her grandson Matt MacVeigh and wife, Stephanie; and great-grandchildren Ashlyn and Brayden MacVeigh, all of Frisco, Texas.
Liz was a member of Eastern Star in Carrizozo and Alamogordo. She loved sports and was a loyal Grizzlie (Carrizozo) fan. She worked for Otero County Electric Cooperative for 23 years. Liz and Bill operated the Grocery Basket in Carrizozo for many years before both of them retired and moved to Alamogordo.
In Alamogordo, Liz and Bill volunteered with the Senior Center delivering Meals-On-Wheels. One of their favorite activities was working with local elections.
Liz enjoyed art and crafts. She loved having plants and flowers in her home and yards. She sang in the choir with her church. She loved her family and her many friends and will be greatly missed by all.
Memorial services for Liz MacVeigh will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2013, at Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Victor Colton officiating. Graveside services will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Tularosa with the Order of the Eastern Star officiating.
Refreshments will be served after the services by the Tularosa Order of the Eastern Star at the Tularosa Masonic Lodge.
The MacVeigh family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
