Maria Dolores Otero Obituary

Maria Dolores Otero, 89, passed away on Jan. 15, 2015, in Tularosa.

She was born on March 15, 1925, in Santa Rosa to Juan and Ophilia (Pino) Montaño.
Everyone knew her as Dolores and loved her. She married Pat H. Otero on April 22, 1946. Dolores was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, always praying for her loved ones. She came from a family of 15 brothers and sisters.
Her time was devoted to St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church since 1976, setting the altar for daily mass, weddings, funerals, Quinceaneras, and many different church functions. She worked extra hours during the holidays and fiesta. She was always ready to recite the Rosary for anyone who passed away, when asked, and give the Benediction, when anyone asked, especially when asked by Father Clifford. She was a Guadalupaño and Crusillistas.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Ophilia Montaño; husband, Pat H. Otero Sr.; son, Steven Otero; granddaughter Maria Peinado Harrison; siblings, Andreiata, Miguel, Cosme, Nayo, Luis, Roque, Predicando, Jonovita, Jesus, Jose, Florinda, Juan, Pablo, Bone and Ramon.

Survivors include her daughters Estella (Edward Sr.) Brusuelas of Tularosa, Rosario Aragon of Tularosa, Cecelia Lucero of Alamogordo, Margie Peinado of Alamogordo; son, Patricio H. Otero, Jr. of Tularosa; 20 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.

The Rosary for Maria Otero will be recited at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015 at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church with Father Carlos Espinoza, as celebrant.
Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Tularosa.

Pallbearers include: Johnny Lucero, Bobby Lucero, Abraham Lucero, Jessy Otero, Jimmy Armijo III, James Otero, Tenasen Evans and Eugene Evans. Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Vigil, Frankie Diaz, Max Salcido, Albino Flores, Ray Telles, Max Montoya and Pedro Galindo.

The Otero family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral arrangements.
