Maria Estela Valle Obituary

Maria Estela Valle, 82, died on Sunday, April 19.
She was born September 1932 in Alamogordo to Fidencio and Carmen (Flores) Molinar.

Her brothers Henry of Bernalillo; Ignacio (Alice) of Atascadero, Calif.; Augustine (Orlidia) of Grand Prairie, Texas and her sister Carmen of Alamogordo will miss her dearly.

She will also be missed by her children and children-in-law Patricia of Edmonds, Wash.; David and Anna of Ft. Myers, Fla.; Michael and Laurie of Mesa, Ariz.; and Lisa of Albuquerque. She is survived by nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Her husband Joe (Sonny) Valle, Jr. preceded her in death in March 1996.

Maria enjoyed traveling in spite of the fact that she packed and moved four children, her husband and the family's home at least a dozen times. She traveled by plane, train, boat and automobile during her 40 years of marriage with her husband. She visited 14 states, the District of Columbia, several Caribbean Islands, Central America and Mexico. She delighted in telling her children stories about her adventures and shared her experiences through photos.

Maria was an excellent dancer and cook. She wore out many a pair of high heels "cutting a rug" with her husband at weddings, community functions and in the family's living room. Her loved ones remember sitting down to the roast and potatoes that had been cooking while they were at church and listening to Glenn Miller's "Begin the Beguine" play softly in the background. Her other favorite musicians included Eydie Gorme and Steve Lawrence and Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. In any event, she blessed her family with a love of movement, music and good food.

Maria's daughter Pat remembers her advising, "Get an education. It's the one thing they can't take away from you!" Yet she happily postponed her dream of a college education when she married her husband Joe. Instead, she pushed her children. They learned to work and study hard and passed that same emphasis on education along to their children. In May 1998, Maria fulfilled her longtime dream when she graduated New Mexico State University with a bachelor's degree in social work. Her degree served her well in the capacity of ombudsman and as an advocate for issues related to geriatric care and the aging process.

Maria E. Valle will be memorialized at the Newman Center in Las Cruces. Father Ray Flores will begin the mass at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 1. Her ashes will be interred next to her husbands at the center. Afterward, please join the family for lunch and reminisces in the parish hall. Let Pat Valle ([email protected]) know if you'll be there so that they can plan to have enough for everyone. Maria would want to be sure there is plenty of food and drink.
