Maria Gonzales Ochoa

1919 - 2016 Obituary Condolences

On July 23, 2016, Maria Gonzales Ochoa was called into the arms of Jesus in San Antonio, Texas. She lived 96 long and enlightening years. She was born to Jovita and Ruperto Gonzales in San Simon, Ariz., on Sept. 10, 1919. She was one of eight children, she had six sisters and one brother.

She married Alfredo Ochoa on August 2, 1939 and made their home in Alamogordo, N.M. Over the years she lived a long and vibrant life. She was a woman of faith and the heart of our family. Her spirituality was unsurpassed and was a Christian example for all. She constantly prayed for everyone and was a beautiful testimony to what it meant to be Catholic. She was a member of the Guadalupanas Catholic Women's Group and participated in several Charismatic and other Catholic organizations both in Alamogordo, N.M., and San Antonio, Texas. She loved old churches and would visit many historical churches in New Mexico and the old Spanish churches and missions in San Antonio, Texas. She had a real zest for life, as she loved to dance, loved music, crochet, write, read, pray, and visit with family and friends. She was very proud of her family, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and even her great-great grandchildren. She had a way of showing love for all to the point that everyone she met within a few minutes was a friend. We honor Maria as the great spiritual matriarch of the Ochoa family and know that Jesus smiled on her as she made the transition into His kingdom. We hope that we can emulate her love for God and family as we continue through this journey called Life.

Survivors include her two sons, Alfred Ochoa, Jr. (Dorothy Valdez ), Raul (Rosa) Ochoa; her four granddaughters, Alma (Rudy) Vela, Annette Ochoa, Becky Ochoa, Graciela (Harry) Davis; seven grandsons, Andrew (Vicky) Garza, Patrick (Karin ) Garza, Mando (Sarah) Garza, Chris (Cheryl) Ochoa, Jesse (Alex ) Acosta, Robert (Lucy) Acosta, Richard (Christy) Acosta; two sisters, Marcy Flores, Jane Sisneros; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and many special cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred D. Ochoa, Sr.; daughter, Catalina Garza and her husband, Andres Garza, Sr.; daughter, Mary Acosta; her parents, Ruperto and Jovita Gonzales; and grandson, Willie Acosta.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, August 6, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
The Rosary for Maria Ochoa will be recited at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 6, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 6, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
