Marian Irene Cox Obituary
Marian Irene Cox, 96, died Saturday, July 18, 2009, at her home in Alamogordo. She was born May 22, 1913, in LaMoure, N.D. She was the daughter of Edward Conrad Shawver and Martha Catherine (Wolfe) Shawver. She graduated from high school in Fargo, N.D.
Marian married Edward Vernon Cox of Albany, Mo., on Nov. 24, 1938, in Des Moines, Iowa. She was a devoted wife for 52 years. The couple lived in the Albany area for four years before moving to Socorro in 1942. In addition to being a homemaker, she worked in insurance offices and supported the family business as a bookkeeper. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Socorro, where she taught Sunday school for 25 years. She was a member of Magdalena Chapter No. 9 OES. She moved to Alamogordo in 1990 to be closer to her children. After moving to Alamogordo she became a member of Bethel Baptist Church and served in many ministries, including choir and a tape ministry for shut-ins. She was a member of Alamo Chapter No. 11 OES. She leaves a legacy of love and devotion to her family and her savior, Jesus Christ.  
She is survived by two sons, Jack L. Cox and his wife, Marie, of Alamogordo, and Bill Cox and his wife, Marcene, of Las Cruces; a daughter, Judy Blankenship, and her husband, Harris, of Alamogordo; 11 grandchildren, Kim (Mrs. Bob) Money and Jason Blankenship, of Alamogordo, Donna Napier, of Naples, Fla., Brenda, (Mrs. Mark) Whiten of Peoria, Ariz., Shelley (Mrs. Phil) Kruis, of Tucson, Ariz., Jarod Cox and his wife, Meredith, of Omaha, Neb., Dana Cox, of Albuquerque, Sandi (Mrs. Jon) Lippard, of Enid, Okla., Brenda Berryhill, of Las Cruces and her fiance, Danny Hale, of Alamogordo, Tommy Black and his wife, Nancy, of Las Cruces, and Jeff Black and his wife, Mary, of Lahaina, Hawaii; 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and one nephew, Russell Shawver, and wife, Lila, of Gentry, Ark.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Vernon Cox; her parents; two brothers; one sister; a daughter- in-law, Janie Cox, of Alamogordo; and a granddaughter, Karrie Blankenship, of Alamogordo. 
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Bethel Baptist Church in Alamogordo with Pastor Howell Scott officiating.
Pallbearers will be Mark Whiten, Tommy Black, Jon Lippard, Bob Money, Jason Blankenship and Alex Whiten.
Friends may call at Bethel Baptist Church on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, July 25, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Lone Star Cemetery in Albany with Pastor C.F. Rainey officiating.
Should friends desire, contributions may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church building fund, 1316 Scenic Drive, Alamogordo, NM 88310.
