Marian Katherine Clarke Obituary
Marian Katherine Clarke, 95, of Bath, Maine, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009. She was born in Columbia Falls, Maine, on July 24, 1914, the daughter of Grover and Effie (Allen) Worcester.
She grew up in Columbia Falls and Cherryfield areas and graduated from the local high school. After high school, she went on to Gorham Normal School and later to the University of Maine to obtain her bachelor's degree in 1939 and master's degree in education in 1960.
Marian taught in several schools throughout her 42 years of teaching, including a one-room schoolhouse in Kents Hill, Maine. In 1950, she moved her family to Bath and taught elementary school at Washington Primary, Huse School and later retired from Bath Junior High School in 1977.
In 1937, she married Warren Hazen Clarke, who passed away in 1945.
Marian enjoyed many things in life, her students being at the top of the list. She loved animals and cats were like children to her, however "Gimbel," her Papillon, was one of her best friends. She always looked forward to the monthly visits with Claudia's Critters at the Hill House. Marian's most cherished love were her boys, Ricke and Carle, as she called them. They were the heart and soul of her life.
Marion is survived by her two sons Carle H. Clarke and his wife, Margret, and their children of Alamogordo, and Frederick (Rick) H. Clarke and his best friend, Barbara Jo Belanger, of Bath; and many good friends at the Hill House in Bath.
At Marian's request, there will be no services. Anyone wishing to make a memorial donation in Marian's name may do so to: The Coastal Humane Society, Range Road, Brunswick, Maine 04011.
The family would like to send a special thanks to all the wonderful staff at The Hill House for their terrific care and loving touch. They became more than caregivers to Marian; they were her extended family.
Arrangements are being handled by The David E. Desmond Funeral Home in Bath.
