Marjorie "Marie" (Mowery) Hillis Obituary
Marjorie "Marie" Mowery Hillis, 63, born March 30, 1950.
Marie earned her Tinkerbell Wings on June 27, 2013, and made her one way flight to EVER EVER LAND. Marie was an inspiration to everyone she met, especially her patients and students. Marie was an RN/BSN that specialized in behavioral health, as well as taught and tutored at New Mexico State University-Alamogordo. Her genuine caring nature touched the lives of countless patients during her nursing career - setting a shining example for the students she taught. She also helped graduate nurses study for their state boards, many felt as though they passed because of her. Her secret was to teach students/graduates to take care of themselves first. She taught them to use relaxation, meditation and other unique forms of self-care. In touching the lives of her students with her knowledge and inspiration, she continues to touch the lives of many as her multitude of students carry on her genuine caring nature to their patients.
Marie was an avid Disney fan and admirer of Walt Disney whom she unexpectedly met when she was 10 years old. She was very proud of her time as a Walt Disney World Cast Member, bringing the Disney Magic to life as a conductor for the Walt Disney Railroad. Just like a Disney Movie, Marie was full of Magic and Pixie Dust! She will be missed by all, but just like magic and dreams she will live on in their hearts forever!
She joins in heaven her mother and father Bill and Darlene Mowery and her brother James "Jim" Mowery.
Those who have survived her and will miss her the most are her daughter Deidra Wolf and husband, Bill; her sons Michael Hillis and his Partner, Levi McHale, and Brian Hillis and his wife, Michelle; her grandkids Eddie Wolf and his beautiful daughter (her great-grand-daughter) Julie Marie Wolf, Dale Wolf and his girlfriend, Kirsty Ramirez, and Christopher and Joshua Wolf. And also her first love and father of her children Harold "Wayne" Hillis.
We will be having a celebration of life for Marie on Monday, July 22 at White Sands National Monument Full Moon Night starting about 7:30 p.m. Full Moon nights at White Sands were always one of her favorite things to do with family and friends. We will have a short prayer/sermon, followed by the children and grandchildren lighting and floating tethered Chinese lanterns. We ask that guests bring some kind of handheld multicolored flashing/spinning, carnival/parade type lights so you can help light up the sky as the lanterns are floating nearby.
There will be a reception following the service. We kindly ask friends and family to graciously bring an easy to make side dish or dessert. So dress in your tank tops, shorts and flip flops and bring your boogie board wax and foldout chairs (if you can spare extra chairs that would be greatly appreciated). We will also be playing some of Marie's favorite music.
Balloons, flowers or plants, cut or alive, are not allowed at White Sands. So instead, Marie asked that you donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital that so far has kept little Julie Marie Wolf cancer free for almost two years. St. Jude NEVER charges anyone for their services, treatments, housing and even gives weekly allowances for household items. Envelopes will be available at the celebration.
Hope to see you out there. We will have individuals standing on the side of the road with mini shinny pom poms to help guide you to our location starting at 7 p.m. There is an entrance fee of $3 per person for ages 16 and up.
The family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the services. Cremation has taken place at PCS.
