Marolyn S. Whorton Obituary

Marolyn S. Whorton, 80, passed away August 23, 2016, in Alamogordo, N.M. She was born Nov. 27, 1935, in Roswell, N.M., to Urban and Emeline Shaw.

Marolyn was a legal secretary and loved the law. After her retirement she became actively involved in children's programs, CASA that advocates for children in the Courts and the Big Brother Big Sisters program that mentors children. The children she helped loved her very much as did the staff who called her a gem. Regarding one child it was said that her cheering and constant friendship and tough love helped guide a young girl through the troublesome waters of adolescence. She took in family members and helped them through difficult times. She offered advice and help to anyone who wanted it. She loved flowers and beautification, hosted many family reunions, and played bridge with her companions on a weekly basis. She was courageous and loving to the end.

Survivors include her three sons, Mark Whorton of Alamogordo, Paul Whorton and spouse Tricia of Dallas, Texas, Joe Daniel of Lawton, Okla.; daughter, Diane Hagy and spouse Larry of Amarillo, Texas; grandchildren, Taylor Whorton, Ryan Whorton, Raymond Daniel, Garrett Daniel, Conner Daniel, Bobbi Garber, Jacki Vandergrift, Johanna Gillespie, Amanda Gillespie, Wyatt Gillespie; and two sisters, Elaine Howard and Carolyn Price.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Nathaniel Whorton; granddaughter, Nicole Whorton; brothers, Larry Shaw, Maurice Shaw; and sister, Mary Ellen Bergman.

The memorial service for Marolyn will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jack Moffatt officiating.
Inurnment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Otero County, 906 Virginia Avenue, Alamogordo, NM 88310 or the following link,
