Martha L. McCombs Obituary

Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend

Martha L. McCombs, 78, went home to be with her Savior this Mother's Day, May 10, 2015. Martha was born on June 23, 1936 in Wilton, Arkansas, to the Seaborne Eugene and Sevier Alberta Jones.

Martha was raised and attended elementary school in Wilton, Arkansas. She graduated from Ashdown High School in Ashdown, Arkansas, in 1954. She was courted by a handsome young man from right up the road in Foreman, Arkansas, named Douglas McCombs and on July 24, 1955 they were married in the First Baptist Church of Ashdown, Arkansas. Doug enlisted in the U. S. Army and served at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, from 1955 to 1957. It was there that Martha gave birth to their first child, Deborah Lawman on October 11, 1956. After leaving the Army in 1957, Martha and Doug moved to Alamogordo, New Mexico, where their second child, Davis Alan, was born on October 9,1957. Their third child, Phillip Dean, was born in Alamogordo on June 12, 1962. For the next eight years, Martha continued raising her children and making a home for her family. When the family moved to the Phoenix, Arizona, area in 1970, Martha began working outside the family home in the secretarial and bookkeeping field. Over the next 37 years, Martha worked for various businesses such as, Western Finance, Kauffman Seeds, K&L Butane, Alamo Pipe, Lowes Pharmacy, and the New Mexico Space Museum.

When her husband, Doug, became ill and ultimately passed away in 2008, Martha quit the job at the Space Museum to take care of him full time. Later that year she moved to Midland, Texas, to live with Debbie and Jerry. In August 2010, Martha, Debbie and Jerry moved back to New Mexico initially residing in Rio Rancho and currently in Albuquerque. Martha's health began to decline and on May 10, 2015 the Lord called her home.

Martha was a loving mother and grandmother who doted on her children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren called her Nanny and she was loved and revered by all of them. She was a person who liked to keep an immaculately clean house and seemed to always have a cleaning cloth in her hand. She enjoyed having company and loved to play cards, especially canasta. She enjoyed attending church when her health was good and was a member of the Berean Independent Baptist Church when she lived in Alamogordo.

Martha is survived by her daughter, Debbie Willis and husband Jerry of Albuquerque, New Mexico; son, Davis "Pise" McCombs and wife Libby of Alamogordo, New Mexico; son, Phil McCombs and wife Amanda of Waynesville, Missouri; grandchildren, Michael Dean Hartmann and wife Kasandra of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Damien Willis of Las Cruces, New Mexico; Dustin Willis of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Anita McCombs of Alamogordo, New Mexico; Phil McCombs, Jr. and wife Lisa, Ft.
