Marvin Buie passed away on July 31, 2016, at the age of 93. Marvin was born in Cloudcroft in 1923, to the late James Alexander Buie and Minnie Sewell Buie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and six siblings.

He went to the old Red Brick School in Cloudcroft through high school. During his senior year in 1941, he worked for the school and built the rock wall that is in front of the Red Brick School that still exists today. During World War II, Marvin served in the Army in Europe under General Patton. He was on Omaha Beach on D-Day, and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He was injured twice and received two purple hearts. He also received a good conduct medal.

Dec. 17, 1949, he married Patricia Thompson. They began their lives together in Cloudcroft and moved to Alamogordo in 1960.
Marvin worked for the electric coop for 22 years. Much of this time, he was a high-voltage electric lineman. He also did electric line work for Holloman Air Force Base. He later worked for Gardner Zempke out of Albuquerque building electric lines in the copper mines and from which he eventually retired.

Marvin is survived by his five children: Garry Buie and his wife, Cynthia, Susan Barrett and her husband Jim, Kevin Buie and his wife Sheri, John Buie and his wife Kim, and Mike Buie and his wife Dawn; seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Marvin will be buried in the James Canyon Cemetery beside his wife Pat with private family services.

The Buie family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the services.
