Mary Alexina Chase Roberts

Obituary Condolences

Mary Alexina Chase Roberts, 90, daughter of Clarence C. and Alexina Fall Chase, and granddaughter of Albert Bacon Fall, one of New Mexico's first senators and former Secretary of the Interior, was born on Sept. 13, 1922, in El Paso and departed this life on Dec. 31, 2012, in Alamogordo.
Mary grew up on her grandfather's Three Rivers Ranch in New Mexico. Extremely proud of her family lineage, she prided herself on her ranching heritage, and her unwavering belief in her grandfather's innocence in the Tea Pot Dome scandal.
She met and married the love of her life, Jack Candler Roberts, in El Paso, and became step-mother to his three surviving children, Mary Ann Lockett, of Phoenix, J.C. Roberts, Jr. of Alamogordo and Linda Du Bois of Scottsdale Ariz.
She lost her husband to cancer in 1973 and lived the remainder of her life in Alamogordo, where she worked diligently within the Republican Party to register voters and work polling stations, doing her part to keep our democracy free. Throughout her life, Mary worked in positions that included bookkeeping, banking, communications and spent many years as a counselor at Alamogordo's Council on Alcohol where she touched many lives for the better. Always a lady in the truest sense of the word, Mary maintained great dignity throughout her life. She was especially noted for high moral standards and manners, which she taught by example. She was lovingly released from this life as her granddaughter, Donna Jo Clay, of Alamogordo, stayed by her side. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her. Mary is survived by her sister Emidair Chase Jones, of Las Cruces, her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mary's ashes will be interred alongside her husband in the Monte Vista Cemetery in Alamogordo. The Roberts family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home.
