Mary Alice "Polly" Quick
La Luz - Mary Alice Quick, 78, passed away peacefully at the family home in La Luz, NM on Monday, July 6, 2020, surrounded by her family. Polly was a lifelong resident of New Mexico, she was born in Los Angeles, California to Herman Hilton Jernigan and Julia Ida Gentry on April 30, 1942, but relocated to Pinon, New Mexico when she was young and moved to La Luz, New Mexico during her teen years, where she lived with her grandparents, David and Irene Gentry. Polly graduated from Alamogordo High School and soon after married the love of her life, Wilford Ray Quick "Ray", on September 19, 1959. Ray and Polly started their own family business, Quick Well Drilling and Pump Service out of their home in La Luz, where they operated their company until their retirement in 2005. Polly was preceded in death by her parents, Herman Hilton Jernigan and Julia Ida Gentry, and her daughter Kathy Sue (Quick) Mainz. She is survived by her loving husband Ray of 60 years, three sisters, Dottie Hammack, Dale Johnson, and Judy Sharp, three daughters, Mary Ann Schueltz ( Lonnie), RayNell Crimmins (Dennis), Kerrie Quick (Matt), eight grandchildren, David Quick (Sam), Amber Mullen (Dan), Lacie Orrel (Corey), Thomas Gomez, Shyla Williamson (Levi) McChristie Curry (Catlin) Bobby Wride, Savanah Price (Kyle ), and 12 great-grandchildren. Polly was an amazing wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma and lived a full and happy life, she will be greatly missed by all that met her and especially if you had the opportunity to hear her stories of the past and the history of New Mexico, as she loved her family history.
Polly's wish was to be cremated with a small memorial service; her memorial service will take place in La Luz, NM at a later date.
