Mary K. Adkins

Obituary Condolences

Beloved mother and grandmother, and sister
Mary K. Adkins, 75, of Tularosa, went to be with our Lord Jan. 21, 2008. Mary was born in Martin Springs Tenn., July 18, 1932, to Lilly Gertrude and Jesse James Hargiss. Mary grew up in a loving family with nine brothers and sisters. In 1951, Mary moved to New Mexico, where she met and later married J.F. Adkins. In 1965 they moved to Alamogordo where Mary raised her family.
Mary will be remembered for the great love she had for her family and friends. Her daughters and grandchildren were always first in her life and her daughters considered her their best friend. Her grandchildren loved going to "Granny's" house because it was always full of love and food. Her love for people was expressed through her Southern-style cooking. When family or friends were in need of comfort, Mary would whip them up her famous homemade German chocolate cake.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Francell Ybarra, and Deborah Cooksey and husband Ronald, of Tularosa; one sister, Louise Rorex, of South Pittsburg, Tenn.; three brothers, David Hargiss and wife Shirley, of Carlsbad, Gene Hargiss and his wife Petreva, of Dunlap, Tenn., and Jim Thomas and his wife Jan, of Mattawan, Mich.; five grandsons, Branden J. Prater and wife Sharon, of Apopka, Fla., Justin L. Cooksey, Nickholas J. Cooksey, Ronald Chad Cooksey, and Kyle L. Cooksey, all of Tularosa; and three granddaughters, Angela M. Morales and husband Manny, of Las Cruces, Tammy A. Mendez and husband Pablo, and Monica Cooksey Rocha and husband Johnny.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, J.F. Adkins; her parents; two sisters, Bertha Holeman and Amanda Novella Case; and two brothers, John Hargiss and James Thomas Hargiss.
Services will be conducted at Tularosa Methodist Church on Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Victor Colton officiating.
Should friends desire, contributions may be made to Alamogordo Hospice, 505 11th St., Alamogordo, NM 88310.
Cremation will take place locally at PCS, entrusted to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home.
