Mary Olida (Sanchez) Richardson-Vullo, 77
Mary Olida (Sanchez) Richardson-Vullo, 77, of Tularosa, died peacefully on Jan. 27, 2011, at her home after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Vullo was born Sept. 27, 1934, in Roswell to Salomon G. and Ramona O. Sanchez.
After graduating from Saint Vincent Academy High School in Albuquerque, Mary joined the order of the Sisters of Charity in Cincinnati, Ohio. She returned to her parent's home in Carrizozo after two years as a novice. Mary married Alfred M. Richardson of Hondo on Jan. 8, 1955. Mary and Alfred settled in Alamogordo where she worked for Hughes Air Craft for a brief time. Mary eventually returned to college to fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming a teacher and she graduated from New Mexico State University in May of 1970 with a degree in Elementary Education. Mary began her teaching career in Mescalero, NM and taught 2nd grade at Tularosa Elementary School for many years. After Alfred's death in 1977, Mary remarried Ralph Vullo in 1982. Mary retired from teaching in 2000. She spent most of her adult life in Tularosa where she loved teaching and farming. Mary will be especially remembered for her joyful spirit and her tenacity.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ralph Vullo of Tularosa; her daughters Rebecca Richardson of Las Cruces, and Pamela Detrixhe and of Lubbock, Texas; a step daughter, Joanne Vullo of Santa Teresa; a step son, John Vullo of Alamogordo; her grandchildren, Fawna Allen of Las Cruces, Taylor Sheppard of Midland, Texas, Trevor Sheppard of Big Spring, Texas, Richelle , Morgan and Jared Detrixhe of Lubbock, Texas; a step grandchild, Brandon Vullo; and her great grandchildren, Tristan and Reese Allen. She is also survived by her siblings Elmon Sanchez of Belen, Ernest Sanchez of Las Cruces, Lorrine Baroz of Carrizozo; Orlando Sanchez of Tuscon Ariz.; and Favolia Dalton of Capitan and several nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her late husband, Alfred M. Richardson, her daughter Deborah Sheppard, and her parents, Salomon and Ramona Sanchez.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at Saint Francis de Paula Catholic Church in Tularosa by Pricilla Wilson.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m.., Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011 with Father Max Hottle, O.F.M., Celebrant.
Relatives and friends are welcome at Saint Francis de Paula Catholic Church Parish Hall after the funeral mass for a reception.
Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Tularosa.
Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alamogordo Hospice.
