1923 - 2015 Obituary Condolences

Mike G. Baca, 91, passed away quietly at his home with his wife and family on Friday, Oct. 30, 2015. He was born on Dec. 17, 1923 to Miguel Baca and Evarista Gallegos Baca, in Tularosa, New Mexico.

In 1942 Mike proudly joined the Navy where he served in WWII throughout the Pacific Theatre in Espiritu Santo Island, Guadalcanal, Australia, and New Zealand and returned to Tularosa in 1946 after WWII.

He married, the love of his life, Teresita Chavez Padilla on Dec. 20, 1962, they were married nearly 53 years. He and his wife Teresa had two children Cedric Baca (Hilda) of Las Cruces and Chris Baca of Tularosa. He also had three children from a previous marriage, David Baca (Maria) of Tularosa, Rachel Baca of Albuquerque, and Alfred Baca (Vickie) of Espanola. Mike became an electronics technician at Holloman Air Force Base following his military service where he performed aircraft maintenance and traveled throughout the country on special assignments and finally retired after 37 years of federal and military service.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: David Baca, Solomon Baca, and Sam Baca.

He leaves behind his two younger brothers, Manuel Baca of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Frank Baca of Victorville, California; and two older sisters, Susie Baca Garcia of Albuquerque and Margaret Baca Sanchez of Tularosa. He also leaves behind five grandsons, Albert Silva, Alfred ""AJ"" Baca, Eric Silva, Miguel ""RJ"" Baca, and Patrick Baca; seven granddaughters, Alexandria Baca, Dominique Baca, Jessica Montoya, Kathy Silva, Megan Wortham, Shelby Baca, and Victoria Carrizales; and seven great grandchildren, Asia Carrizales, Gabriel Baca, Jessie Jett Montoya, Jeremiah Baca, Loren Montoya and Zaire Carrizales.

Mike was a very hardworking man who loved the outdoors where he taught his children and grandchildren activities such as camping, fishing, and hunting. He always carried a smile on his face and was willing to chat with every person he met. He was very committed to his Catholic faith and was always making sure his family followed the church's teachings.

The Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015, starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Saint Francis de Paula Catholic Church and Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Tularosa, New Mexico. A reception will follow at noon at the parish hall adjacent to the church.
Pallbearers are: Albert Silva, Alfred (AJ) Baca, Eric Silva, Michael Herrera, Michael Sanchez, Miguel (RJ) Baca and Patrick Baca.
Honorary Pallbearers are: Ernest Baca, Robert Baca, Ray Benavidez, James Montoya, Darin Pino, Gabriel Sanchez, Ernest Stogden Sr. and Dave Wickham.
