Milicent (Browne) Mershon Obituary

Milicent (Browne) Mershon, 100, passed away on Nov. 29, 2014, in Alamogordo. She was born on Sept. 6, 1914, in Washington D.C., to Charles H. Browne and Ella Pensmith Browne.

Survivors include two sons, William F. Mershon and his wife Marilyn of Mayhill and James B. Mershon of Mesa, Colo.; three grandchildren, Stewart Mershon, Daniel Mershon, Mollie Glass and John Glass; and two great-granddaughters, Haylie Glass and Madison Glass.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John Jeff Mershon and a son, John C. Mershon.
Milicient married John Mershon Sept. 2, 1936, in Washington DC. They moved to New York City, N.Y. where he was employed. They moved from New York to Mayhill in January of 1938 to join the Mershon Lumber Company.
Milicent made the significant transition from urban life on the East Coast to rural Mayhill, raised three sons and was active in community and civic events in Otero County for the remainder of her long life.
She was a member of the Eastern Star, The Gerald Champion Auxiliary and many other efforts.

A private family service will be held at a future date.

The Mershon family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services. Cremation will take place at PCS.
