Myers F. Penney Obituary

MAJ (Ret) Dr. (ThD) Myers F. Penney, age 88, went home to be with the Lord October 15, 2016, at his home in Alamogordo, N.M., after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

MAJ Penney, is survived by his wife, Patricia; five children: Julia of Ky., Jason, Barbara, Anne of N.M., and Stephen of Md. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren: Brianne, Louis, Madison, Joseph, Kimberly, Eric, Sarah, Meghan, Karen, and Brad; six great grandchildren: Alana, Joelle, James, Bailey, Kat, and Lochlan.

MAJ Penney is preceded in death by his parents George and Florence Penney, brother's Jack and Don Penney, sister's Agnita, Margaret, and Katherine Penney of Port Jervis, N.Y., and daughter Lori Casias of Albuquerque, N.M.

MAJ Penney is a veteran of WWII and the Korean War entering as a Private, advanced through the ranks, received a direct commission as Second Lieutenant in Infantry where he served with the 27th Infantry "Wolfhounds" Regiment, 25th Infantry Division during the Korean War. MAJ Penney had several assignments throughout his career in Germany, Korea, Louisiana, Maryland, and in New Mexico, he was the Commanding Officer of Stallion Site Range Camp, White Sands Missile Range. MAJ Penney retired from the U.S. Army in 1966 out of Aberdeen Proving ground, MD.

Shortly after his return from Korea, MAJ Penney began to realize a call into the ministry. While assigned at White Sands Missile Range, he received his license to preach the Gospel in 1958. In ceremonies held at the First Baptist Church in Socorro New Mexico, he was ordained to the full ministry. While in Germany, he started a mission under the sponsorship of the First Baptist Church of Socorro, conducting services in both English and German, which he spoke fluently.

After retiring from the U.S. Army, MAJ Penney continued his ministry and continued his education in Theological studies receiving his Doctorate in Theology from the Pensacola Theological Seminary. For over 40 Years, Dr. Penney Pastored Churches throughout Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Mexico, culminating as the Pastor for Community Baptist Church, Alamogordo, NM.

MAJ Penney will be cremated and a memorial service will be determined at a future date. Family requests donations to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America (AFA) in lieu of flowers.

The Penney family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements.
