Nena Duran Obituary

Concepcion "Nena" Duran, 86, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2015, at her home in Tularosa surrounded by her family. She was born December 8, 1928 in Tularosa, to Nicholas and Francisca (Carrillo) Duran.

Nena was a loving perpetual homemaker that devoted her entire life to the Lord. She was a dedicated member of the St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church. She was the best cook you could find in Tularosa, and she used this gift to not only feed her family, but to assist in raising an incredible amount of money for the St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church, while many of her family members were running for Fiesta King and Queen. She also cooked for many years at the Mescalero Coming of Age Ceremonies during the Fourth of July. She was also a Mayordoma for Santo Nino Atocha Church in Three Rivers. She always found time to help anyone in any way possible. Everyone in the family was included in Nena's prayers. She passed her everlasting faith down to all of her family who joined her in saying the rosary in her last days before moving on to be by the Lord's side.

Nena was survived by her daughters Gina Kowatch and husband Louie; Mary Guilez; and sons Frank Duran and wife Candy; Bennie Wooten and wife Sylvia; son-in-law Robert Sainz; daughter-in-law Naomi Hiles; 16 grandchildren; Lawrence Chavez and wife Kim; Steve Chavez and wife Liz; Frances Vigil and husband Jimmy; Cindy Provencio and husband Perfecto; Robert "Chonies" Sainz; Ray Sainz and wife Ashley; Frankie Duran and wife Emma; LeighAnn Duran; Alex Duran; Annette Guilez; Georgette Forbes and husband Tommy; Trisha Coney and husband Archie; Nash Kowatch and wife Erica; Max Jr.; Shana Duran; Faith Casares and husband Clint; 40 great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Raymond Duran; daughters Josie Chavez, Gloria Sainz; and son Max Duran; son-in-law Matias Chavez; grandson Matthew Chavez; and six brothers.

The rosary will be recited by Steve and Liz Chavez at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at St. Francis De Paula Church. Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
