Nilene A. (Dugger) Austin Obituary
Nilene A. (Dugger) Austin, 56, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, in Las Cruces. She was born in El Paso to Jesse Dugger Jr. and Nila (Walker) Dugger.
Nilene worked at the Inn of the Mountain Gods for seven years and retired due to health problems. Before that she drove a school bus and the shuttle bus to El Paso Airport and she was also a security guard at Alamogordo High School. She loved to play bingo, do cross stitching and always wrapped her Christmas and birthday presents with beautiful paper and lots of unique bows and decorations. She loved her children and grandchildren and felt that family was a very important part of her daily life. She helped take care of her grandchildren as much as possible. She was cheerful and tried to make sure that others around her were happy. She always kept her sense of humor even throughout the last few months when her health was declining and she was in and out of the hospital. She will be missed very much by her family, friends and especially her bingo friends. She loved them all very much.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Nila Dugger, and her niece Audrey Staab.
Survivors include her son Trevor Austin and his wife, Robbin, of Tularosa; her daughter Chelsea Austin, of Alamogordo; and her former husband, Greg Austin, and his wife, Terri, of Alamogordo. Nilene is also survived by her grandchildren Aspen Austin, Brooke Austin and Landon Austin; her sisters Brendalyn Dugger, of Alamogordo, Didra Dugger, of Tularosa, and Maudeen Dugger, of Alamogordo; her nieces and nephews, Airman 1st Class Chris Padilla and his wife, Lacey, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Cpl. Jarrod Staab and his wife, Martha of Jacksonville, N.C., Kristal Padilla, of Tularosa, New Mexico, and Pacie Bennett, of Alamogordo.
A funeral will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at the Hamilton-O'Dell chapel with Ted and Mac McCutchen officiating.
Honorary pallbearers are her nephews Cpl. Jarrod Staab and Airman 1st Class Chris Padilla.
Interment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery in Alamogordo.
The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
