Nilene A. (Dugger) Austin, 56, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, in Las Cruces. She was born in El Paso to Jesse Dugger Jr. and Nila (Walker) Dugger.
Nilene worked at the Inn of the Mountain Gods for seven years and retired due to health problems. Before that, she drove a school bus and the shuttle bus to the El Paso airport. She was also a security guard at Alamogordo High School.
She loved to play bingo, do cross stitching and always wrapped her Christmas and birthday presents with beautiful paper and lots of unique bows and decorations. She loved her children and grandchildren, and felt that family was a very important part of her daily life. She helped take care of her grandchildren as much as possible.
She was cheerful and tried to make sure that others around her were happy. She always kept her sense of humor, even throughout the last few months when her health was declining and she was in and out of the hospital. She will be missed very much by her family, friends and especially her bingo friends. She loved them all very much.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Nila Dugger; and her neice Audrey Staab.
Survivors include her son Trevor Austin and his wife, Robbin, of Tularosa; her daughter Chelsea Austin, of Alamogordo; her former husband Greg Austin and his wife, Terri, of Alamogordo; her grandchildren Aspen Austin, Brooke Austin and Landon Austin; her sisters Brendalyn Dugger, of Alamogordo, Diadra Dugger, of Tularosa, and Maudeen Dugger, of Alamogordo; and her nieces and nephews, Airman 1st Class Chris Padilla and his wife, Lacey, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Cpl. Jarrod Staab and his wife, Martha, of Jacksonville, N.C., Kristal Padilla, of Tularosa, and Pacie Bennett, of Alamogordo.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at the Hamilton-O'Dell chapel, with Mac McCutcheon officiating.
Honorary pallbearers are Jarrod Staab, Chris Padilla and long-time family friend, Skipper Harkey.
Interment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery in Alamogordo. A potluck reception will immediately follow at the Cornerstone Chapel located at 88 Alamotero Road.
The family greeted friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
The Austin family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
