Opal Jean Sanderson Obituary

Opal Jean Sanderson, 84, finally went to heaven to meet her Lord and Savior, on Oct. 31, 2014, with whom she preached and prayed about on a daily basis.

Opal was born May 12, 1930, in Arkansas. She was a resident at Casa Arena Blanca for two years. Opal called Alamogordo home for more than 60 years.

Opal Sanderson had regular prayer meetings and was able to build a small local church called the Full Gospel Lighthouse. Opal and her husband Joseph Andrew Sanderson of 66 years ran the Full Gospel Lighthouse together for several years in Alamogordo. Before she ran the Lighthouse she was an active member of various churches in the community. Opal loved participating in council and fellowship with people from around the world to spread the word of God. In her personal time, Opal loved writing poetry, singing and playing the piano. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed by her family.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband Joseph Sanderson and her sister Wanda Peters.

She is survived by her siblings Alta Mae, Orval Powell and Don Powell. She is survived by her sons Jim Sanderson and his wife Debra Sanderson, and Kenneth Sanderson. She is survived by four grandchildren: Gina Storseth, Shawn Sanderson, Amanda Veyna and Laura Sanderson. She also had ten great grandchildren she loved very much.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, at Monte Vista cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
