Master sergeant, U.S. Air Force, retired
Orvan H. Wheeler, 86, a longtime resident of Alamogordo, died Wednesday, May 28, 2008, in Alamogordo.
Mr. Wheeler was born Feb. 17, 1922, in Acton, Ky., to James and Lena (McDonald) Wheeler. He graduated from Seneca High School in Seneca, Ill. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and retired from the Air Force as a master sergeant in 1960. He then worked in civil service at Holloman Air Force Base and was a firefighter when he retired in 1973.
Survivors include a son, Michael O. Wheeler and his wife Kathleen A., of Fairfax Station, Va.; two daughters, Susan C. Breden and her husband Stephen, of Colleyville, Texas, and Pamela Sup Lange and her husband Craig, of Boise, Idaho; three grandchildren, Aaron Sup and his wife Erica, of Boise, Idaho, and Doug and Krissy Breeden, both of College Station, Texas; a brother, Robert Wheeler, of Olympia, Wash.; and two sisters, Lavonna Blood, of Marseilles, Ill., and Imogene Karjala, of Glava, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 63 years, Nettie Wheeler, in 2006.
Graveside services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Monte Vista Cemetery with the Rev. Chuck Moon officiating.
Military honors will be provided by the Holloman Air Force Base Honor Guard.
Services are under the direction of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
