Patricia Alice (Van Brunt) Smith Obituary

Patricia A. Smith, 71, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend of Las Cruces, formerly of Tularosa, passed away on Feb. 2, 2016. She was born on Feb. 17, 1944, in Prescott, Arizona, to Clyde and Catherine (Contreras) Van Brunt.

Patricia (Pat) was born in Prescott, Arizona and spent years in Hillside and Ash Fork, and her high school years in Williams. She was a good ball player, loved riding horses and was quite the tomboy; many times she was sent to school in a dress but chose to wear rolled up jeans underneath, often times losing the skirt on the way to school. Pat was a family woman through and through. She spent her adult life in Holbrook, Arizona and Tularosa, New Mexico. She felt it of utmost importance to be a stay- at- home mom to four girls, truly serving as their first teacher and private seamstress, sewing much of their school clothes over the years.

She was very lucky to find the love of her life in Richard Smith whom she married in 1981. Together, they shared a life full of faith, family and friends. She and Richard made great strides to spend much time with all of their grandchildren, going to their events and serving as their #1 cheerleaders. She was a talented quilter and craftsman (even mastering some welding and cutting skills). She enjoyed sewing, reading and cooking. Everyone who spent time with her remarked on her willingness to help, her generosity, and her strength. Above all else, her faith in the Lord was of the highest importance to her. She enjoyed reading the Bible, listening to sermons, and constantly sharing her faith with others. Her love of Jesus Christ was evident to all who knew her.

Survivors include her three daughters, Jan Gallegos of Las Cruces, N.M., Cyndie (Michael) Dalton of Las Cruces, N.M., Leslie Moffett of Tularosa, N.M.; sister, Peggy (Bob) Dean of Williams, Ariz.; Eleven grandchildren, Brandi (Clinton) Flock, Sean (Brittany) and Kristopher Kelly, Dustin (Andrea) and Lacey Dalton, Daniel and Nicholas Garcia, Gabriel Gallegos, and Brady, Cataya and Sierra Moffett, and ten Great- grandchildren Tyler, Katie and Sckarlit Flock, Braddock and Bralynn Kelly, Richard and Michael Garcia, Aerabella Rodriguez, Ellie Mae Ramp and a very special baby boy on the way. Other special relatives include: Tom (Judy), Dick and Scott (Teresa) Runkle, Wade, John, Travis and Casey Runkle, Wade Grimm, Brandy Runkle, Ashley( Joe) Ramp , Debbie( Spencer) Peet, Delbert (Phyllis) Dean, and Phyllis (Mark) Billington and beloved friend Ilene Bass.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tami Kelly, husband, Richard N. Smith and parents, Clyde and Catherine Van Brunt.

The family will greet friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at Trinity Baptist Church; #1 Old Railroad Dr., High Rolls. Funeral to follow at 2 p.m., with Rev. Billy Tucker officiating. Burial will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Scott Runkle, Delbert Dean, Dustin Dalton, Sean Kelly, Kristopher Kelly, Daniel Garcia, Nicholas Garcia, and Gabriel Gallegos.

Should friends desire, contributions may be made to Trinity Baptist Church; P.O. Box 367; High Rolls, NM 88325.

The Smith family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
