Patricia Jane Jerashen Jones Obituary

Patricia (Pat) Jones, age 78, died peacefully on Mother's Day, May 8, 2016, at her home of 46 years in Alamogordo. Born Oct. 23, 1937, in East St. Louis, Ill., Pat was the daughter of George and Lola Jerashen. She grew up in Illinois and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1955. She married Milton Jones in 1959 and they moved to California for a few years before settling in Alamogordo in 1970.

Pat and Milt raised 5 children, Jim, Joe, John, Jerry and Niko Jones, and have been blessed with 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She enjoyed travelling with her grandchildren, going with them to Hawaii, Disneyland, Paris, Norway, and even the Roswell Space Museum. Pat was a favorite at the grandchildren's birthday parties, bringing too many gifts (often loud) and much entertainment.

Pat was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was quick with a joke and had an ability to light up a room with her sense of humor. She was intelligent and opinionated, and never apologized for being exactly who she was. She set the example for her children and grandchildren on what a strong, independent woman could be during a time when it was atypical for a woman to be so assertive. She exuded confidence and had her own sense of style. I only hope that she's saving a seat next to her in the slots section at the great casino in the sky.

Pat worked with the family business, Alert Alarm Company, for more than 30 years until her retirement, and was an active member of the Alamogordo Chamber of Commerce. Her hard-working drive to create a livelihood for her family was one of her strongest attributes, which she combined with a loving and generous heart, always giving to others. The family took care of foster children for over 20 years, during which time Pat was a foster mother to dozens of children with unique needs that she always seemed to understand. She was always contributing her time (and her children's time) to activities that benefited those who had less. She was a member of Christ Community Church for more than 30 years, until her health began to decline.

Pat was born in a shotgun house, a child of the depression era. She often told stories of her childhood and the unique items that ended up on the dinner table to feed a family of 8, like turtle soup, pigeon, or pet rabbit. She instilled a consciousness in her children to appreciate what they have.

Pat is preceded in death by her brothers Don and Rich Jerashen.

Surviving sisters include Bernie and Susan, and her brother Thomas Jerashen.

Pat lived a very full life, enjoying her family and friends in person. As she desired, there will be no formal service and we will simply remember our loving, dedicated friend, mother, and wife in our hearts forever.
