Paul Dwight Rhodes, 78
Paul D. Rhodes, 78, passed away Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, in Alamogordo. He was born Oct. 16, 1932, in English, Ind., to Cecil and Goldie (Speedy) Rhodes.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Joyce Rhodes, of Alamogordo, and his five children, Michael Rhodes, of Ramona, Calif.; Tina Blasingame, of Brentwood, Calif;, Barbara Meyers, of The Dalles, Ore.; Susan Goodman, of Tucson, Ariz.; and Jane Rutt, of Oro Valley, Ariz. A brother, Ron Rhodes, and a sister, Virginia Gilliat, both of Columbus, Ind., also survive him. Paul is also loved very much by his 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Rhodes, and his mother, Goldie Speedy Rhodes.
Paul was very proud to serve his country as a career airman in the United States Air Force as a missile maintenance technician. He was stationed at several Air Force bases, including Edwards Air Force Base, Calif.; Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif.; and Holloman Air Force Base, where he retired in 1974. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a top-notch short order cook and opened and managed Hobo Joe's restaurant in Alamogordo and Roswell. He was a security guard at White Sands Missile Range for many years. He attended Mountain View Assembly of God Church, and was a lifetime member of the Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship International.
Paul was a devoted husband, father and friend.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home chapel will the Rev. Wayne Barnard officiating. Interment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Holloman Air Force Base Steel Talons Honor Guard. The family will greet friends at 9 a.m. at the funeral home before the service.
Pallbearers include Michael P. Rhodes, Michael W. Rhodes, David Rutt, Marcos Rutt, Jerry Rutt and Bill Blasingame.
The Rhodes family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
